Ravello has its history tightly connected to Ancient Marine’s Republic of Amalfi which political and economic power lasted for 200 years – from 840 till 1076. The traces of its magnificence are evident until present day. The history of Ravello concern in particular some noble and important families which testified their prosperity in numerous medieval palaces from via S. Giovanni till Toro: families as Rufolo, D’Affitto, Gonfalone e Della Marra. These noble families built up for themselves grandiose villas and gave them as present to the church which today represent these masterpieces.

The valley represent priceless environmental and historical value which preserves millennium memories of the ancient civilization with its paper factories, iron foundries and hydroelectric plants, not in use anymore in the rest of the world.

The Path of Water – from Sambuco of Ravello till Minori
Nine kilometres long journey, through the entire valley which divides Ravello and Minori. On the watershed between the valleys of Maiori and Minori, situated in Forcelle is located Cloister of St. Nicholas, inhabited from 1652, where you can enjoy wonderful panorama view. After the short stopover in the cloister, it starts decline path; in the valley it can be found sparse buildings which date from medieval age, memories of water mills and paper factories. The journey represent crossover of extreme importance from medieval time when it was built ramp of stairs and one long stone path which connected Villa Marittima of Minori to Villa di Pelvica of Tramonti.
Furore and its fjord: on the path of farmers and fishermen
The Furore fjord summarize the binomial between land and sea and characterizes the way of life of inhabitants of Amalfi Coast. In the valley of fjord where flows stream Schiato, untill the beginning of 1900s there was a village of fishermen which houses has been known under the name “monazzeni” with two mills and two paper factories. Itinerary proposed is passing through the valley starting from Punta Tavola di Conca dei Marini and crossing the path immerged in green until the fjord and its valley. You will have opportunity to visit the paper factory.
